When traveling to Russia

When traveling to Russia you may want to make a list of the best things to see and do because there are so many to choose from.


Moscow, Russia - Red Square - This is the most popular tourist attraction in all of Russia. It is also the most important and historic spot in the country. The pavement is still cobblestone, and you will always find something going on here in this public square.

St. Petersburg, Russia - Peter and Paul's Fortress - A historical and very old structure in St. Petersburg that was put up to fortify the city. It's been used throughout history as a political prison. This is the burial compound for Russian emperors.

Novgorod, Russia - Novgorod Kremlin - Novgorod is Russia's 3rd largest city, and it's an important historical tourist destination. Novgorod was Russia's capital city at one time. A capital fortress, the Novgorod Kremlin, was built in 1221. It was made completely of wood that was later replaced by brick.

Karelia, Russia - Solovetsky Islands - The Solovetsky Islands were used as a monastery all throughout the middle ages, and later reserved for Stalin's prison. The islands are easily reached from the shores of Karelia facing the White Sea.

Moscow to Vladivostok, Russia - Trans-Siberian Railway - This railway runs from Moscow to Vladivostok 9288 km, and it's the world's longest railway. It crosses from one end of the continent to the other. It was built from 1891-1916 to protect the Pacific coastal Russian territories.

Irkutsk Siberia, Russia - Lake Baikal - This is the oldest freshwater lake in the world. It's extremely deep. It's located in near total isolation which has made for some very rare indigenous fauna. Tourists like to call it the Russian Galapagos because there are many animals that can't be found anywhere else that are found at Lake Baikal.
